Review of Cardiology Outpatients - SBH written by a patient
26th January 2018

I need to let you know that my appointment letter, dated 12 Jan 2018, for my appointment on 19.01.18, arrived today, 26.01.18. The postmark on the envelope shows that it was sent on 24.01.18. Fortunately I'd received a text alerting me so was able to phone and check the details of the appointment, where I had to come and what to bring. I have been put on the waiting list for surgery and hope that the notification of the date doesn't suffer the same fate.

Review of Cardiothoracic Surgery Outpatients - SBH written by a family member
23rd January 2018

I am telling you this on behalf of my son. An appointment for a check up eight months post surgery (with a member of the Cardiothoracic team) had been sent in the post on 14-11-17 for 15:15 on 5-1-18 . When we arrived at 15:10 we were told that it had been cancelled and that a letter has not been sent! It had apparently been rearranged for the following week and he was told that he should come back then! My son (and I) were unwilling to do so, he had taken a day off school in the middle of his mocks and I one off work plus spending £24 on train fares. In the end we waited two hours and he was seen by a non cardiothoracic nurse, as it was only a check up my son had no worries about his condition my son did not want to come back. This is the second time we have been told my son should have been sent a letter and we have not received it. As my son will need to be coming back to Barts for the next couple of years he is now now very wary of the admin system. Our lasting impression of Barts is good medical care, fancy interior very poor non joined up. admin.

The only thing that spoilt it was the dirty habit of other patients not locking the bathroom/toilet door, while using the toilet, or washing their hands afterwards.

Review of 4C Ward - SBH written by a patient
21st January 2018

The Radcliffe Thoracic Surgery ward has extremely high standards of cleanliness and patient care. The staff were great and very professional! The best part about my stay in the ward for my pleurodises was having an individual room - it made a huge difference to my well-being and vastly quickened my recovery. It meant I got space, peace and quiet to get sufficient rest. In the long-run, it means that I spent less time in hospital - it's super smart and more hospitals need to understand this principle of short-term vs. long-term thinking. It seems that this is certainly a key part of the ongoing NHS funding challenges. The staff communicated very well - I knew wjat to expect when and things were always explained to me. I even knew when shifts changed. Well done t

Review of Clinic 8 Pre assessment - SBH written by a patient
19th January 2018

My visit to Barts hospital and my pre admission clinic could not have been better. Linda Thurston did a thoroughly great job at explaining everything. She put my at ease and made feel well cared for. Waiting for an operation can be a worrying time but Linda made me feel i will be in very good hands.

I was well attended on the dot. The staff were warm and friendly. I cannot think actually if there is anything that need to be improved, maybe?
